Karhoff wins two medals at state swim meet

St. Mary’s Colgan junior Kaila Karhoff won two medals competing during the 5-1A state championships last weekend at the Shawnee Mission SD Aquatic Center.

Karhoff placed fifth in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.75 seconds and she earned 14 points. Leavenworth’s Elisabeth Howell won the event in 51.82.

Karhoff finished seventh in the 50 freestyle in 25.15 and earned 12 points. Hillsboro’s Lauryn Vogt won in 23.83; Vogt set the state meet record the previous year with a time of 23.39.

Karhoff, the lone representative for Colgan who competed for the Fort Scott co-op team during the regular season, tallied 26 points on her own and Colgan finished 16th overall in the team standings with 26 points.

She earned all-state second team for her performance.
