Lowell Alexander, 84, of Frontenac, Kansas, passed away on May 24, 2026, following a battle with cancer.
Harry Alexander was born March 16, 1942, in Parker, KS to Harry and May (Sanders) Alexander. He grew up on his parent’s dairy farm with his older sister, Gwenneth, and attended school at Parker K-12.
He began college at Iola Junior College and finished a BS degree in Special Education and a MS degree in School Psychology at Emporia State University. After several years working in the field as a teacher, School Psychologist, and Program Coordinator, he completed a Doctoral program in School Administration at the University of Kansas. He then became an Assistant Administrator at Wyandotte County Special Education Cooperative and retired there as the Director of Special Education in 1995. He continued his 42-year career as the Director of the Special Purpose School and Project Alternative in Parsons, Kansas for the Special Education Service Center in Greenbush.
Lowell was married to Connee Hays in 1972 and they had one son, Michael Alexander.
He was married to Lorna Martin on March 28, 1987, in Pittsburg, KS. They lived in Stillwell, KS. They adopted two infant daughters from Romania: Regina in 1991 and Caroline in 1995. In 1996 they moved to Frontenac to raise their girls and for Lowell to begin his new employment with the ESC at Greenbush. The family continues to reside there.
Lowell enjoyed many hobbies and activities. He loved traveling as a family both in the United State and Abroad, and they did so yearly. He learned how to do welding and made many metal sculptures and a steel and brick fence to surround the front of their home.
He loved biking and running and participated in many Bikes Across Kansas and running events. He loved reading and keeping track of current political events. Upon his retirement, he began working on model train sets which took over an entire side of the basement and the backyard. He also attended Southeast Kansas Model Railroad club. Lowell was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac and a member of Knights of Columbus. Lowell was also an active member of the Pittsburg YMCA. His favorite activity to watch and entertain as of late was his first grandchild, Alexander Wesley Wilson, who was named in honor of him and his other grandfather.
He is survived by Lorna, his wife, a sister, Gwenneth Nickell of KCK, one son, Michael Alexander of KC MO. Two daughters, Regina Alexander, of Pittsburg, and Caroline Alexander, of Frontenac. One grandson, Alexander Wilson, and Matthew Wilson of Frontenac. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m., Friday, May 29, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, Kansas with Father Josh Evans as Celebrant. Mr. Alexander has been cremated according to his wishes. Burial of the cremains will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Frontenac, Kansas following the mass. Friends may call or come by the Bedene Funeral Home in Arma, Kansas to sign the register book or leave a memorial contribution. Family suggests memorials to Harry Hynes Hospice.
