Along the way, he meets a 15-year-old Connecticut farm boy, Joseph Plumb Martin, who would go on to compile one of the few complete diaries of a Continental soldier. Martin would serve with Washington through Valley Forge and Yorktown, being discharged in 1783 as a Sergeant.
