In loving memory of John Dorio
John C. Dorio, Girard KS died on May 23, 2026, at Via Christi Community, Pittsburg KS.
John was born May 6, 1940, in Bayonne, NJ. And served in the US Marine Corps from 1957-1960, where he met and married Mary Stein in 1960, they had two daughters. They later divorced. He then married Margaret (Peggy) Kovac in 1980, they met in Craig CO. And went on to enjoy many many adventures together.
John graduated with a Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Biology from St Cloud State College in 1978.
John went on to work in National Forests throughout the country. Craig CO, Sheffield PA, Ely MN, Anchorage AK.
John retired from The Foresty Department of the Federal Government. He then moved from Anchorage AK to Green Valley AZ. And settled in Girard KS, near Peggy’s parents.
John was an avid bird enthusiast who not only participated in banding birds wherever, he lived. Including banding Pelicans and Cormorants in MN, but finding and being a part of banding projects near his residents in southern AZ. Writing and publishing several papers including his Thesis on the Upland Sandpiper.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ann (Sieracki) Dorio, beloved sister Rita, brothers Joe and Mark. Daughter Mary Jane (Janie), Wife Margaret (Peggy) Dorio who he considered the love of his life.
Survivors include his oldest daughter Theresa Dorio, Clearwater MN, 4 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren. Nieces’ Denise, Lisa and Amanda Blair, NJ. 4 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren.
Mr. Dario has been cremated according to his wishes. There are no services planned. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, KS 66712.
