Both the St. Mary’s Colgan girls and boys track and field squads finished third in the KSHSAA Class 2A regional last Friday at Humboldt.
The girls recorded 74 points and finished behind Marion (119) and Northern Heights (83), while the boys scored 61 points and finished behind Lyndon (131) and Marion (77.5).
Southeast scored 45 points on the girls side and 35 on the boys, finishing sixth (girls) and ninth (boys).
Northeast boys finished 10th with 28 points and the girls were 12th with 11 points.
The top-three finishers in each event qualify for the state meet Friday in Wichita. The four next-best finishers in each event from all regionals earn the right to go to state.
COLGAN
On the girls side, Mari Gilmore and Alli Karleskint were second (5 minutes, 21.64 seconds) and third (5:23) in the 1,600. Gilmore and Karleskint were third (2:26) and fourth (2:27) in the 800. Gilmore finished second in the 3,200 (12:49) between Northern Heights runners Ellei McCrory (12:37) and Laura Cathcart (12:57).
The 4x800 of Mary Rose Boschee, Karleskint, Gillian Wilbert and Gilmore won in 9:53. The 4x400 of Kayla Hutchinson, Karleskint, Wilbert and Katie Paulie finished third (4:14).
Paulie finished third in the 300 hurdles (50.09), while Hutchinson finished third in the triple jump (33 feet, 1/2 inches).
On the boys side, Klayton Adamson won the 100 (11.08) and finished second in both the 200 (22.54) and long jump (20-9).
Colton Smithhisler won the 1,600 (4:46.52), beating out Southeast’s Zayne Gabern (4:46.70) and Uniontown’s Hunter Johnson (4:46.94). Smithhisler finished second in the 800 (2:05), beating out Lyndon sophomore Kendall Wine by :01, and placed fourth in the 3,200 (10:44).
The 4x800 of Michael Vacek, Braven Smithhisler, Quincy Biehl and Colton Smithhisler finished third (8:34).
SOUTHEAST
Lancers sophomore Aubri Smith won a regional title in the 100 (13.50), beating out Humboldt sophomore Willow LaCrone by :11.
Emma Gideon and Camryn Sanders finished second and third in the high jump (5-0). Jackie Robinson was third in the pole vault (8-6).
On the boys side, Trey Sol Galindo won the pole vault with a clearance of 14-0, winning by nearly a foot-and-a-half. He recorded one of the top-25 marks in Kansas.
Zayne Gabern won the 3,200 (10:32) and finished second in the 1,600 (4:46).
NORTHEAST
On the boys side, Tayven Willard won regional titles in both long jump (21-3 1/2) and triple jump (42-11).
On the girls side, Brooklyn Jackson finished second in the shot put (37-10 1/2).
