Bugni wins three regional titles for Dragon girls

Pittsburg girls and boys track and field athletes won a handful of regional titles and several of them qualified for the upcoming Class 5A state track and field meet with their performances last Friday at Blue Valley High School in Overland Park.

The Purple Dragon girls finished third with 70 points, behind Spring Hill (190.5) and St. Thomas Aquinas (139). On the boys side, Pittsburg finished fourth with 64 points, trailing Aquinas (179), Blue Valley Southwest (146) and Spring Hill (94).

Outstanding freshman Kyndal Bugni won three regional titles with first in the high jump (5 feet, 6 inches), long jump (17-9) and triple jump (37-3 1/4). Bugni was fifth in the 400 (59.63).

Kylin Perry finished second in the javelin (108-11) and Savannah Shires and Olivia Buzzard were third in the pole vault (9-6) and discus (98-11), respectively.

Buzzard fired a fourth-place mark in the shot put (31-6 1/4).

On the boys side, De’Marus Partee won regional titles in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles in 14.53 seconds and 39.57, respectively. Isaiah Rosenberg won the 400 (50.10) and Kordae Hayes finished third in the 300 hurdles (40.20).

Halen Moss finished third in the pole vault (10-6). Dawsyn Mooney also finished third in the javelin (139-11). Malakai Meadows took fourth in the triple jump (44-8 1/2).
