Jamie Hamilton and Jack Krusich of St. Mary’s Colgan earned medals as the Class 2A golf state tournament ended Wednesday afternoon at the Quail Ridge Golf Course in Winfield.
Hamilton finished in a tie for ninth place at 15-over-par 159, posting a 6-over-par 78 in Tuesday’s first round and an 81 in Wednesday’s final round.
Krusich claimed 13th place with a 161, shooting 81-80.
The Panthers’ Max Imhoff missed a medal by two strokes, shooting 85-86–171 to tie for 25th place. The top-20 golfers and ties earn medals.
Colgan finished in eighth place in the team standings after its first-round 352. The 12-team field was cut in half after the first round, and it took 347 to advance a team to the second round.
First-round scores for Colgan’s other three golfers were Jackson Carson with 108, Gabe Stockard with 114 and Jax Renn with 117.
Connor Newman of Humboldt captured medalist honors with par-144, a 1-under 71 in the first round and 1-over 73 in the second round. Caleb Cleverdon of Cair Paravel was second with 73-76–149, and Brock Keller of Syracuse was third with 79-74–153.
Salina Sacred Heart was the team champion with 643, followed by Syracuse 649, Hutchinson Trinity with 664, Thomas More Prep with 679, Oakley with 682 and St. Marys with 714.
CLASS 5A
Jace Akins of Pittsburg tied for 25th place in the Class 5A state tournament in Wichita at the Tallgrass Golf Club.
Akins shot 6-over-par 77 in the first round and an 81 in the final round for a 158 total. It took 155 to finish in the top-20 and earn a medal.
Two more Purple Dragons played in the first round but failed to qualify for the final round.
Charlie Hall shot an 87, and Mason Deringer had 90.
Cohen Museousky of Goddard was the individual state champion with 71-72–143, and a tie for second at 145 involved Luke Springer of Goddard Eisenhower (71-74) and Beau Sheldon of Blue Valley Southwest (76-69).
Only six shots separated the top-3 teams as St. James Academy won with 606, followed by Kapaun-Mt. Carmel with 610, Bishop Carroll with 612, Goddard Eisenhower with 625, Maize South with 635 and Hays with 648.
CLASS 3A
Bryce Hill of Frontenac finished 39th in a 92-player field at the Class 3A state tournament at the Lake Shawnee Golf Course in Topeka.
Hill improved one shot in the final round, carding 84-83 for a 167 total.
Wichita Collegiate swept first-place honors. Landon Langston was the individual winner with a 5-over-par 145 (70-75), followed by teammate Bronx Esterline with 74-75–149 and Isaac Rusche of Hesston with 75-76–151.
Wichita Collegiate shot 606 to win the team crown, followed by Hesston 617, Wichita Trinity 638, Sabetha 652, Nemaha Central 664 and Baxter Springs 670.
Colt McCoy led Baxter Springs with 75-80-155 and tied for 11th place.
Other scores for the Lions: Cole Parrish 81-81–162 (tie 31), Riley Daniel 86-85–171 (tie 43), Ethan McCoy 88-94–182 (50), Jarrett Lawson 99-100–199 (tie 54) and Landon Atkinson 95-107–202 (56).
