Lancers drop St. Paul 11-1 in regional opener

No. 2-seeded Southeast baseball scored three runs in the first and five in the second and earned an 11-1 run-rule win in five innings Thursday against visiting St. Paul in a Class 2-1A regional quarterfinal.

The Lancers also scored one in the third and two in the fifth.

Gannon Hobbs earned the win and he allowed one run (unearned) on two hits with nine strikeouts and no walks over five innings.

Carter Buzard finished with two hits and Hobbs, Solomon Scott, Tyler Warner, Izaak Dickinson and Dayton Sims each added one. Scott, Warner and Sims each doubled and Hobbs tripled. Scott, Warner and Buzard each drove in two runs and Scott scored four runs. Scott also stole three bases and Cayne Windsor added two steals.

Southeast moved to 19-4 overall and the Lancers host the regional semifinals and final on Tuesday. They play No. 7 Sedan (8-13) in the second semifinal, 25 minutes after the completion of the first; No. 3 St. Mary's Colgan (15-7) and No. 6 Udall (9-12) have first pitch at 2 p.m. in Cherokee.
