Pittsburg boys and girls track and field teams both finished third in the Southeast Kansas League meet Thursday at Pittsburg High School.
The Purple Dragon girls finished third with 102 points, behind league champion Labette County (132) and runner-up Chanute (120.5). The Grizzlies won the league for the fourth straight year.
On the boys side, Chanute won the title with 171 points and Labette County was not very behind at 169. Pittsburg was a distant third at 80 and Independence an even more distant fourth at 39. The Blue Comets wrapped up their sixth league championship in a row.
PITTSBURG
Kyndal Bugni led the Dragon girls with three first-place and one runner-up finishes. She won the triple jump at 38 feet, 2.75 inches, the long jump at 19-2 and the high jump at 5-2. She finished second in the 400-meter dash in 1 minute, 0.92 seconds.
Bugni tied the school record in the long jump and her winning marks rank among the best in the state in all classes. She’s first in 5A and seventh in all classes in the long jump, sixth in all classes in the triple jump and first in 5A and third in all classes in the high jump.
Promise Brooks won the 100 hurdles (17.46) and the 300 hurdles (52.87). Rylie Shultz was fourth in the 800 (2:40) and Jazmin Molina sixth in the 1,600 (6:24).
The 4x100 (52.65), 4x400 (4:31) and 4x800 (11:24) each finished second. Kylin Perry, Brooks, Ivery Watts and Savannah Shires made up the 4x100; Rylie Shultz, Shires, Watts and Gabriella Martinez the 4x400; Shultz, Martinez, Molina and Savannah Bingham the 4x800.
Watts was fifth in the long jump (16-5). Perry took second in the javelin (132-9). Shires finished third in the pole vault (8-6). Olivia Buzzard finished fourth in the shot put (32-5) and sixth in the discus (98-11).
On the boys side, De’Marus Partee won league titles in the 110 (14.80) and 300 (40.32) hurdles. Kordae Hayes finished third in the 300 hurdles (42.38).
Isaiah Rosenberg was fourth in the 400 (51.58). Alberto Salas was sixth in the 800 (2:11).
Malakai Meadows and Dawsyn Mooney won league titles in the triple jump (45-11) and javelin (151-0), respectively. Meadows also took sixth in the long jump (20-3 1/2).
Garret Dillingham was third (138-10) and Kyler Manuel sixth (126-2) in the discus. Halen Moss and Andrew Hinspeter were fourth (9-6) and sixth (8-6) in the pole vault. Manuel was also sixth in the shot put (39-7).
The 4x400 of Hayes, Partee, Meadows and Rosenberg won in 3:25. The 4x800 of Alberto Salas, Carter Bailey, Malcolm Riley and Luke Moss ran third in 8:51.
