Vikings overpower Sedan to advance to semifinals

Northeast softball advanced to a Class 2-1A regional semifinal after defeating Sedan 14-3 in five innings Monday at the Raider Sports Complex in Frontenac.

The Vikings scored three runs in the first, four in the second, two in the third and five in the fourth, collecting their 14 runs on 12 hits and seven errors.

Erin Doubledee finished with four hits and Destiny Hagan and Delaney Lusker each had two. Hagan doubled for both her hits, Doubledee also doubled and Ciara Neville tripled. Hagan scored four runs and Doubledee drove in three. Hagan stole three bases and Karsyn Choate had two.

Neville earned the win and she allowed three runs (none earned) on four hits with five strikeouts and two walks over five innings. The Vikings worked through seven errors.

Northeast improved to 20-5 and the Vikings draw No. 12 Douglass (9-17) in the first semifinal Wednesday at top-seeded Cedar Vale/Dexter. Douglass upended No. 5 Oswego 13-0 on Monday.

Cedar Vale/Dexter (24-2) and No. 9 West Elk (10-13) play in the other semifinal 25 minutes after Northeast-Douglass.
