Pittsburg seniors Jace Akins, Mason Deringer and Charlie Hall qualified for the upcoming Class 5A state tournament with their performances Monday during the 5A sub-state hosted by Andover Central at Terradyne Country Club.

Akins finished sixth with a 6-over-par 77, Deringer 14th at 84 and Hall 15th at 85.

The Purple Dragons were fourth overall in the team standings with a four-man team score of 332. Andover Central (306), Andover (308) and Spring Hill (325) earned the three state berths for teams.

Akins, Deringer and Hall are headed for the Tallgrass Golf Club in Wichita. The first day of state golf begins next Tuesday.

“It was a tough round out there today, had lots of wind but I was able to push through it and end strong," Akins said. "I am looking forward to state next week, hoping to have a solid round at a course I’ve played a few times and get some things done. The goal is to cap off my senior year on a high note and go compete.”

“I’m happy I was able to improve through the year to get to this point," Deringer said. "From playing baseball two years ago to now completing a personal goal and qualifying for state as an Individual is a big accomplishment. I’m looking forward to being able to continue the season with my senior teammates and capping off our high school career with a bang."

“I’m glad we could fight through the conditions and get to state, and I'm excited to play," Hall said.

Andover Central's Colt Farrow won medalist honors with an even-par 71, beating out Spring Hill's Ty McFarland, Andover's Brody Fox and Andover Central's Xayden Garcia by two strokes.

Dylan Ward, a qualifier for the Dragons last season, missed a return to state by one shot as he finished 17th at 86. Luke Lowe was 23rd at 90 and Lucas Hull 39th at 101.
