St. Mary's Colgan softball made quick work of visiting St. Paul with a 15-0 run-rule win in three innings during a Class 2-1A regional game Monday at the PSU Softball Field.
The Panthers scored four runs in the first and 11 in the second, generating all those runs with only two hits, both singles by Drew Dayton and Kylee Kretchmar.
Colgan worked 16 walks and had two more batters hit by pitch against St. Paul pitcher Marisela Gomez. As a result, the Panthers finished with only seven official at-bats.
Bella Ascanio scored three runs and Kara Osborn, Dayton, Callie Lundy and Addie Morris each scored two. Osborn and Ascanio each worked three walks and Morris, Kretchmar and Addie Bettega each had two. Kretchmar drove in two runs and Dayton, Lundy, Morris, Katie Duncan, Bettega and Brooklyn Barrows each had one RBI. Lundy, Ascanio, Osborn, Morris and Dayton each stole two bases.
Kaydra Mathis had St. Paul's lone hit with a single in the second.
No. 2-seeded Colgan (22-3) advances to a semifinal Wednesday against No. 7 Oxford (12-9), who defeated Bluestem 7-6 on Monday. The Panthers play 25 minutes after the 3 p.m. semifinal between No. 3 Burden-Central (20-3) and No. 6 Humboldt (18-9).
The Panthers are the host again at the PSU Softball Field.
No. 14-seeded Southeast forfeited against Central and here's the post Monday afternoon from the school's Facebook page: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Lady Lancers will not travel to Central High School. The Lady Lancers conclude their season with a loss."
