Hill becomes Raiders' lone state representative

Frontenac junior Bryce Hill earned the last individual state qualification from the Class 3A sub-state hosted Monday by Baxter Springs at the Baxter Springs Golf & Country Club.

Hill was the fifth-best golfer from a non state-qualifying team and he finished 17th with an 11-over-par 83.

Wichita Collegiate (313), Wichita Trinity (317) and Baxter Springs (324) were the three qualifying teams. Frontenac was fifth at 359 and Girard eighth at 385.

Trinity Academy's Cole Palmer won medalist honors at 73, besting Collegiate's Bronx Esterline by two strokes.

Iola's Brennen Coffield (77), Caney Valley's Layne Denny (81), Riverton's Slate Wells (81) and Anderson County's Cayden Davis (82) were the other individual qualifiers.

Hill and the rest of the qualifiers begin state tournament play next Tuesday at the Lake Shawnee Golf Course in Topeka.

Rounding out Frontenac's sub-state scores were Ace Varsolona 24th at 89, Jacob Kyser 27th at 92, Grant Frazier 32nd at 95, Duke Gariglietti 34th at 96 and Jericho Compton 41st at 98.

Girard's Harrison Burke missed on state qualification by one place, finishing 18th at 85. Ayden Crozier was 28th at 82, Ryder Snell 49th at 101, Keaton Huber 56th at 107, Landon Yockey 59th at 110 and Adrian Newton 67th at 117.
