Pittsburg State’s record-setting hitter Dagen Brewer has been named the Central Region baseball player of the year by both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America and the D2 Conference Commissioners Association.
Four more Gorillas also earned all-region honors.
Senior catcher Grant Nottlemann joined Brewer on the first team by both organizations. Senior center fielder Eric Bacon made the first team on the commissioners’ team, graduate pitcher Zach Voss was a second-team pick on both teams, and senior right fielder Isaac Webb made the second team on the writers’ team.
Brewer, a senior left fielder from Topeka, won the MIAA triple crown with 26 home runs, an NCAA Division II-record 107 runs batted in and a .442 batting average. He ranks seventh in D2 in batting average and slugging percentage (.970) and third in runs scored (87, a school record).
Nottlemann, from Lincoln, Neb., batted .376 with 58 runs scored, 13 doubles, five homers and 55 RBI. He received an MIAA Gold Glove with a 1.000 fielding percentage and threw out 10 would-be base stealers.
Bacon hit .404 and scored a school-record 87 runs. He had 17 doubles, five triples, nine homers, 74 RBI and 20 stolen bases. He also was on the MIAA Gold Glove Team with a .977 fielding percentage and six outfield assists.
Voss, from Iberia, Mo., went 12-2 to lead the MIAA in victories. He had a 3.52 earned run average and allowed 65 hits while recording 55 strikeouts in 76 2/3 innings.
Webb, from Collinsville, Okla., batted .379 with 66 runs scored, 18 doubles, five triples, 12 homers and 81 runs batted in. He had 41 stolen bases.
