CHEROKEE, Kan. -- Sedan upset second-seeded Southeast 3-2 Wednesday in the semifinal round of the Class 2-1A baseball regional at the Southeast Sports Complex.
The Blue Devils took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Brian Hert doubled to center field with two outs and scored when Rance Gorby reached on an error.
Sedan added two unearned runs in the fourth for a 3-0 lead.
The Lancers (19-4) pulled within a run in the sixth inning. Singles by Gannon Hobbs and Solomon Scott put two runners on base, and both advanced one base on a wild pitch. Tyler Warner’s groundout to third base and Carter Buzard’s single to left each scored a run.
Hert, the winning pitcher, then retired the Lancers in order in the seventh on two flyballs sandwiched around a groundout. Hert struck out 10 batters and walked none while allowing five hits.
Scott started for the Lancers and fanned seven and walked two while allowing three hits in five innings. Buzard struck out two, walked one and gave up one hit in the last two innings.
Hobbs had a double and single for two of the Lancers’ five hits.
