Jimmy Joe Steele, 75, of Pittsburg, KS died at 7:48 a.m. Thursday June 18, 2026, at the Via Christi Village in Pittsburg, KS following a long illness.
Jim was born July 5, 1950, in Pittsburg, KS, the son of Joseph Junior and Bonnie Jean (Taylor) Steele. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Pittsburg schools. On Nov. 1, 1969, Jim married Janet Mae Campbell in Pittsburg, KS; she survives at the home.
Jim worked for the City of Pittsburg from 1980 to 2012 in different departments centered around water distribution.
Jim had many passions throughout his lifetime including the Rolling Nostalgia Car Club; motorcycles; dirt bikes; his Hot Wheels collection, numerous vacations with family, including traveling Route 66 to California with his wife. A lifelong classic car enthusiast, Jim poured his heart into restoring his unique collection, including a 1932 rat rod, a 1966 Belvedere and his signature Mopar 440 powered 1963 Ford F-100 Unibody.
Survivors include his wife; daughter Terri Kutz and husband John of Pittsburg, KS; grandchildren Jacob Wilson, Megan (Jason) Susnik, Koy (Katie) Kutz and Loren Kutz; great-grandchildren Liam Kutz, Nolan Susnik, Evie Susnik and his cherished dog, Ellie.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Nancy Layton and Dennis Smith, and his beloved aunt, Lorraine Steele.
A Celebration of Life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday June 27, 2026, at T.J. Lelands, 108 W. 6th St. Pittsburg, KS 66762. Inurnment of cremains will be at a later date at the Welborn Cemetery in Moundville, MO. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the Homer Cole Community Center.
