Olds, Cosens post top-10 finishes at national meet

Pittsburg State’s Madi Olds and Alycia Cosens posted top-10 finishes Thursday morning in the javelin at the USA Track and Field Under-20 Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Olds finished in eighth place with a throw of 136 feet, 6 inches, and Cosens took 10th place at 135-11.

Olds’ best throw came on her second attempt in the preliminaries, and Cosens had her best mark on her third attempt.

Olds, from Carl Junction, Mo., and Cosens, a Pittsburg High School product, just completed their freshman seasons with the Gorillas.

Less than two feet separated the top-3 places in the event.

Emily Harbach of Rice was the gold medalist at 172-10, followed by Sophia Mazzoni of Auburn at 171-11 and Greyson Glivinski of Oregon at 171-2.
