St. Mary’s Colgan senior Jamie Hamilton parlayed an outstanding final high school season into being named the Morning Sun boys golfer of the year for 2026.

Hamilton tied for ninth in the Class 2A state golf tournament May 25-26 at the Quail Ridge Golf Course in Winfield, shooting a two-round score of 15-over-par 159 (78-81).

Hamilton earned 2A honorable mention from the Kansas Golf Coaches Association for his play all season.

“Jamie is a great ball striker and has the short game to match,” Colgan boys coach Devon Krusich said. “This past season was no different. He can hit any shot he needs to hit. I don’t think I’ve seen someone make as many 5-10 foot putts in tournaments as Jamie. What stands out the most is his leadership and how he carries himself on the course. He does the right things the right way, and the rest of the team follows.

“This past season, Jamie really improved his ability to recover from bad breaks and bad shots. He was able to be patient and not force shots, letting opportunities to make up strokes come up naturally.

“Jamie had a great career at SMC. I was only there for the last two (years) but he placed at tournaments more consistently than anyone I can think of in recent history. He was always in contention to win tournaments every week. Hopefully, his leadership and grit this past season rubs off on the next generation of Panther golfers.”

Hamilton finished a season-best second place April 13 at Baxter Springs, placed third at the Colgan Invitational (April 21) and Columbus (May 7) and then finished fifth at the regular-season finale on the Schifferdecker Golf Course (May 13). He posted seven top-10 finishes in 10 overall tournaments.
