Girard incoming senior William Bishop finished seventh in the shot put with a throw of 65 feet, 1 1/2 inches Saturday at the Nike Outdoor Nationals & USATF U20 Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Bishop set a Class 3A state meet record last month at 63-6 and his mark ranks seventh-best among Kansas high school throwers in the shot put, according to Carol Swenson. Leavenworth’s Willie Morrison holds the state record at 70-2 1/2 (2015).

Momentum Throws’ (Texas) C.J. Williams won the Nike Outdoor Nationals at 71-7 1/4 and he was followed by Jackson Kerth (66-3 1/4) from Kerrville (Texas), Momentum Throws’ Justin Bordelon (66-3 1/4), Weston Ott (66-1/2) from Albion (Ind.), Eli Smithey (65-10 1/2) from Seal Throwing (Okla.) and Micaiah Canady (65-5 1/2) from the Throwing Factory (Texas) before Bishop.

Bishop finished ahead of more than 40 other throwers from around the country.
