FRONTENAC, Kan. — This year marks the 140th anniversary of the founding of Frontenac, and the city pulled out all the stops to celebrate. Even a little rain didn’t dampen this party.
Events were scheduled throughout the weekend beginning Friday evening and going until Sunday morning. Friday night featured live music by J3 followed by a block party with Members Only on Saturday night. Bounce houses and fishing derbies for the youngsters and an arm wrestling tournament and a bike show. There were even dog races and the traditional parade on Saturday.
“Frontenac Mining Days continues to be a great community tradition and celebration of our mining heritage,” said Frontenac Mayor Steve Morrison.
Morrison expressed his thanks to the Mining Days Committee for their hours of work put into planning and organizing the annual event and was grateful to the city staff for the extra hours they put in to keep the event safe and enjoyable.
“Finally, thank you, community,” Morrison said, “The way residents and visitors conduct themselves throughout the weekend is a big part of what makes Mining Days such a positive event and one that families can enjoy.”
