Northeast softball falls in regional championship

The Northeast Vikings’ season came to an 21-6 end with an 11-1 run-rule loss in five innings Wednesday night against regional host and top seed Cedar Vale/Dexter.

The Vikings jumped out early 1-0 with Erin Doubledee’s RBI single in the first.

The Spartans plated 11 unanswered runs with two in the first, four in the second, one in the third and four in the fifth against Northeast pitchers Doubledee and Ciara Neville.

Neville started out and took the loss with six runs (four earned) on four hits and no strikeouts and four walks over 1 1/3 innings.

Doubledee allowed five runs on two hits with three strikeouts and three walks over 3 1/3 innings.

Zoe Davidson earned the win with one run on four hits and five strikeouts and four walks over five innings.

Ceeli O’Banion, Jaycee Maples, Doubledee and Presley Warford each had one hit, all singles.

Gracie Webb and Madelyn Lampson each had at least two hits and two RBI, and Webb finished with three runs batted in. Webb and Davidson each worked two of the Spartans’ seven walks.

The Vikings celebrated seniors Destiny Hagan and Neville for career milestones: Hagan 150 hits and 100 stolen bases and Neville 250 strikeouts.

Ciara Neville’s three-run triple in the semifinal proved to be the decisive blow that propelled the Vikings into the regional championship against Cedar Vale/Dexter.

Neville earned the win in the circle and she allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits with six strikeouts and four walks over seven innings. The Vikings also overcame six errors.

Douglass starter Taytum Crisswell took the los and she allowed 10 runs (nine earned) on 12 hits with six strikeouts and two walks over six innings.

Neville led the Vikings with three hits and five RBI. Erin Doubledee added two hits and two RBI, Destiny Hagan one hit and two runs scored and Jaycee Maples two hits and two runs scored. Karsyn Choate also added two RBI.

Hagan and Choate both tripled, Doubledee doubled and Ceeli O’Banion had two doubles.
