Frontenac softball splits with Fort Scott

Frontenac softball closed out the regular season 18-4 overall by splitting Monday against Fort Scott, winning the opener 6-4 and falling in the nightcap 4-1.

Ace Ogle earned the win and she allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits with nine strikeouts and no walks over seven innings. At the plate, she finished with two hits (including a double) and three RBI.

Stevi Likely also doubled and drove in two runs. Paige Unruh and Gracen McLaren each finished with two hits and Unruh doubled.

The Raiders scored five of their runs in the fourth against Fort Scott starter Kaylee Aikin.

Hits and runs were definitely harder to come by for the Raiders in the second game facing Fort Scott ace Kyndal Aikin. The Raiders managed only a run in the sixth and three hits over seven innings, all singles.

Unruh, Likely and McLaren had the singles. Unruh hit a two-out single in the sixth and advanced to third on a throwing error. Likely then scored Unruh with a single to center.

Hadley Goodwin took the loss with two runs allowed (both earned) on two hits and six strikeouts and five walks over 4 2/3 innings. Ogle finished up inside the circle and she allowed two runs (both earned) on five hits with no strikeouts and no walks in 2 1/3 innings.

Frontenac will be the No. 1 seed at regional when KSHSAA announces the brackets Wednesday.
