Frontenac softball rolls Anderson County 26-2

Top-seeded Frontenac softball advanced to a Class 3A regional semifinal with a 26-2 win in three innings Tuesday during a quarterfinal against No. 16 Anderson County at the Raider Sports Complex.

The Raiders scored 14 runs in the first inning and 12 more in the second. They collected 14 hits and worked 11 walks against Anderson County pitchers Khloe McCarty and Maura Rockers.

Ace Ogle, Blakely Niegsch and Gracen McLaren each hit two-run singles and Hadley Goodwin's three-run home run highlighted Frontenac's 14-run first.

McLaren hit an RBI double and Rain Warren and Stevi Likely added two-run singles in the second.

Warren drove in five runs and Likely, McLaren and Niegsch each drove in four. McLaren led with four hits and Haydn Goodwin added three. Hadley and Haydn Goodwin both scored four runs.

Unruh, Likely and Haydn Goodwin each stole two bases.

Goodwin earned the win for the Raiders and she allowed no runs on no hits with seven strikeouts and four walks over 2 2/3 innings. Freshman starter Ogle lasted just one-third of an inning as she battled her control under the wet pitching conditions, walking five and striking out just one.

Frontenac (19-4) plays No. 8 Iola (11-13) in the second semifinal Thursday at the Raider Sports Complex, 25 minutes after the first semifinal between No. 4 West Franklin (16-7) and No. 5 Wellsville (15-7). West Franklin-Wellsville starts at 3 p.m.

Iola defeated Cherryvale 16-6, West Franklin defeated Girard 14-4 and Wellsville edged Columbus 5-4 in the other games Tuesday.

The semifinal winners play 25 minutes after the completion of the Frontenac-Iola game.
