PITTSBURG, Kan. – This Saturday, Ron’s Supermarket, located at 310 E. Centennial Drive will host a 6-hour-long event featuring food, fun, sales and a 2026 Jeep Gladiator Giveaway to celebrate the grocery store’s 50th anniversary.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, June 20, community members can get door prizes, shop an outdoor produce sale, purchase discounted items, enjoy bounce houses, sample bakery and deli foods, purchase fully cooked ribs, and take photos with Gus the Gorilla.

At 11 a.m. five finalists, who were selected randomly from shopping with their Ron’s discount card, will receive a key fob. Each person will try to unlock the Jeep using the fob, and the person who succeeds, wins the Jeep. The four other finalists will receive a meat bundle of their choice.

The five finalists are Janet Maceli, Jim Jordan, Angelique Durden, Connie Potusek and Marilyn Bishop.

Drew and Tim Rhodes, co-managers of Ron’s, stated at the beginning of the year that they chose to host the event on Father’s Day weekend to honor their father, Ron Rhodes, the founder of the grocery store. The day will also commemorate 620 Day, a celebration of Pittsburg’s area code, as well as honoring the city’s 150th anniversary and America’s 250th.

“As Ron’s celebrates 50 years, this event is really about thanking the people who made those 50 years possible,” said Drew Rhodes, owner of Ron’s Supermarket, in a release. “Our customers, our employees, and this community have shaped what Ron’s is today. We are proud to celebrate alongside Pittsburg during such an important milestone year.”

Ron’s Supermarket kicked off the first five months of the year with continuous discounts and weekly giveaways to its customers as part of its 50th anniversary celebration.

Ron’s was founded in 1976 by Ron and Barbara Rhodes. The store began in a small building on North Rouse Street.

“When we opened in 1976, there were a lot of independent grocery stores. There aren’t many of us left,” Ron Rhodes said in a release. “Our ability to stay open for 50 years is entirely because of our loyal customers and dedicated staff. Without strong community support, we wouldn’t be in business today.”
