Girard, June 12. - "My chief goal in life since I ran away nearly five years ago has been to make good every dime I took from my friends at McCune." That was the statement today of Ed S. Dolson, back in Crawford County after four and one-half years as a fugitive from justice, to face charges of embezzling approximately $200,000 from the defunct Farmers State Bank of Mc-Cune. This goal, he asserted, has been foremost in his mind since his flight Sept. 21, 1921.
Verdict for damage award amounting to $11,691.66. was returned in favor of Otis McCoy in his suit for $40,300 against the Pittsburg Boiler & Machine Company by the jury today noon after deliberations lasting six and one-half hours. The suit was tried in division No. 1 of the district court under Judge D. H. Woolley here and was given to the jury yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock. McCoy suffered permanent injuries to his left-hand including amputation of three fingers.
Tax payments for the last half of 1925 are being made by many persons this week at the different business houses locally, which have been authorized to accept tax collections. A week from today is the final day on which payments of the 1925 taxes can be made to avoid delinquency. June 20 is the time limit fixed by law for the payment of taxes of the preceding year, but as the 20th falls on Sunday, payments must be made by Saturday, June 19, to escape being delinquent.

Shawnee County District Court judge will decide June 15 whether to issue a temporary injunction barring action on any 1977 salaries at the Kansas State College of Pittsburg. Judge Kay McFarland will hear arguments from Board of Regents and KSCP faculty representatives in deciding whether to block salary distribution until faculty grievances over deadlocked negotiations can be resolved.
GIRARD - The State Board of Tax Appeals will hear the request of Crawford County for permission to issue approximately $100,000 in no fund tax warrants to set up a county landfill system at 2 p.m. July 7 in Topeka. According to federal and state regulations, the operation of all landfills and dumps will become the responsibility of the county on July 1. The Crawford County Commissioners have proposed three sites for sanitary landfills.
GIRARD - A representative of the state Civil Defense office in Topeka will be in Crawford County June 28 to July 2 to assist county officials in forming an emergency operations plan. County Civil Defense Director Eldon Bedene told the Crawford County Commissioners, at their meeting Friday, that Kenneth Bry of the state Civil Defense office will be in the county to help set up the plan.

A vacancy at Girard's Haderlein Elementary School has led to a shuffling of principals at Pittsburg Community Schools. USD 250 Superintendent Gary Price announced Monday that the Board of Education had accepted the resignation of Lakeside Elementary School principal Dan Duling, who plans to assume leadership of Girard's Haderlein school. "With Dan living there, it kind of makes it a natural," Price said.
ARMA - Gary Ivy, an 18-month Arma Police Department veteran, is Arma's new police chief. The Arma City Council selected Ivy over five other candidates after a 30-minute executive session in a special meeting Monday night. Ivy had served as interim chief for much of the two months since the council failed to reappoint former Police Chief Gene Arnold. Ivy's salary was set at $14.75 an hour, the same as Arnold earned.
A Claremore, Okla., man has been taken into custody after he allegedly left his child in a car for almost three hours in extreme heat on Saturday. William David Walden Jr., 34, was arrested over the weekend for involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of his 14-month-old son, Brook Ray Davis Walden. Preliminary autopsy reports show the child died from hyperthermia, or exposure to extreme heat.
