Voss pitches three-hit complete game
Pittsburg State pitcher Zach Voss fires to the plate during Friday's complete-game performance against Augustana at Al Ortolani Field. BROCK SISNEY / THE MORNING SUN

Zach Voss scattered three hits as Pittsburg State defeated Augustana 7-1 Friday night in the winners’ bracket final of the sub-regional tournament at Al Ortolani Field.

Voss (12-2), graduate right-hander from Iberia, Mo., struck out five batters and walked two while throwing 105 pitches – 69 for strikes. He pitched the first nine-inning complete game for the Gorillas since Paul Panduro threw a no-hitter in a 9-0 victory at Newman on April 22, 2022.

“He pitched on guts,” Gorillas coach Brock Buckingham said. “He attacked them and got ahead on almost every hitter. He was unbelievable.”

The Gorillas snapped a 1-1 tie in the fifth when Dagen Brewer doubled to left-center field with two out, Isaac Webb walked, and Grant Nottlemann doubled down the right-field line to score both runners.

PSU added three runs in the ninth on consecutive RBI triples by Jadyn McNealy to right-center and Eric Bacon down the right-field line and Brewer’s sacrifice fly to left.

Brewer also hit a solo home run in the seventh inning, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Nottlemann and McNealy each contributed two hits, and Landon Bruce’s leadoff homer in the third gave the Gorillas their first run.
