Graduation ceremonies to begin this weekend

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Kan. — Commencement is nearly here for high school and college seniors across Crawford County.

Kicking off the county commencement ceremonies this weekend are St. Mary’s Colgan High School and Southeast High School. Here are the dates for the area high schools.

  • St. Mary’s Colgan HS: Noon, Saturday, May 9, at St. Mary’s Colgan Fieldhouse.
  • Southeast HS: 2 p.m., Saturday, May 9, at the Southeast High School “new gym.”
  • Pittsburg HS: 9 a.m., Saturday, May 16, at Hutchinson Field.
  • Northeast HS: 1 p.m., Saturday, May 16, at Northeast High School.
  • Frontenac HS: 1 p.m., Saturday, May 16, at Frontenac High School.
  • Girard HS: 3 p.m., Sunday, May 17, at Girard High School.

Pittsburg State University

In addition to the local high schools, more than 1,100 students are scheduled to graduate from PSU on Friday, May 15, and Saturday, May 16. According to PSU, 347 of those graduating are obtaining graduate degrees while the remaining 765 are earning their undergraduate degrees.

The university’s commencement ceremonies begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 15, with the Kelce College of Business followed by the College of Arts and Sciences (6:30 p.m.). On Friday as well, a nurse pinning ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts, starting at 11:15 a.m. An ROTC commissioning ceremony also takes place on that Friday at 10 a.m. at the Pittsburg State University Veterans Memorial. At 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, is the Crossland College of Technology commencement ceremony, which is followed by the College of Education at 11:30 a.m.
