Calls for service increase again for first responders

PITTSBURG, Kan. — Last week, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Pittsburg Police and Pittsburg Fire Department all experienced an increase in calls for service compared to the week prior.

From May 24 to 30, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office responded to 295 calls for service, a 43 percent increase compared to the previous week. Deputies also conducted 138 traffic stops, arrested three people, assisted 35 motorists or community members and took 25 reports. Charges for arrests included criminal possession of a weapon by a felon, probation violation, drug distribution, and others according to the Crawford County inmate roster.

From May 25 to 31, the Pittsburg Police responded to 334 calls for service, a 14 percent increase compared to the previous week. Officers also conducted 86 traffic stops, engaged in 225 officer self-initiated activities, arrested 23 individuals and took 74 reports. Charges for arrests included domestic battery, possession of opiates, disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property, burglary and others, according to the Crawford County inmate roster.

From May 25 to 31, the Pittsburg Fire Department responded to 46 calls. Of the 46 calls, 32 were medical related, 12 were fire-related, including two working structure fires and two were motor vehicle accidents.
