GIRARD, Kan. -- The noon deadline for candidates to file for this year’s elections came and went, Monday, making the upcoming election season a little clearer. The primary election takes place on Aug. 4, with the general election on Nov. 3.
Locally, there is a race for the District 1 County Commission seat currently held by Republican Bruce Blair. The primary winner in a race that pits Blair against challengers Paul Totman and Bryan Hanson will be the next commissioner for that district, as there is no Democrat running.
In District 3, Republican Carl Wood will face off against Democrat Nichole Hamblin in the general election.
In the Kansas House of Representatives (District 3) race, Republican D.J. Perry will meet the winner of a primary contest between Democrats Isys Galindo and Isaiah Harris. Incumbent Chuck Smith did not file for re-election.
In the Kansas House of Representatives (District 2) race, Republican incumbent Ken Collins will contest with Dan Muter in the primary to see who will face Democrat Avery Rowland in the general.
