Brewer named MIAA player of year

Led by conference player of the year Dagen Brewer, seven players from league champion Pittsburg State were voted onto the all-MIAA baseball team, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.

Brewer, an outfielder, is joined by catcher Grant Nottlemann, shortstop Jadyn McNealy and outfielder Eric Bacon on the first team.

Starting pitcher Zach Voss and outfielder Isaac Webb made the second team, and relief pitcher Bradyn McClure is on the third team.

Nottlemann and Bacon also were voted onto the Gold Glove team.

Brewer, a senior, leads the conference in the Triple Crown categories with a .429 batting average, 23 home runs and 92 runs batted in, and he has scored 72 runs. He leads NCAA Division II in RBI (1.88 per game) and is second in homers. He set conference and school records with a 41-game hitting streak, and he has set the PSU single-season record for RBI.

Nottlemann, a graduate student, is hitting .378 with nine doubles, five homers, 49 RBI and 47 runs. He has not committed an error and has thrown out 8-of-15 runners attempting to steal a base.

McNealy, a junior, leads the MIAA and is third in D2 with 44 stolen bases. He is batting .310 with 58 runs and 27 runs batted in.

Bacon, also a junior, is batting .408 with 78 runs, 14 doubles, four triples, six homers, 64 RBI and 20 stolen bases. He has a .972 fielding percentage, committing three errors in 107 total chances.

Voss a graduate student, is 10-2 with a 3.59 earned run average in 13 starts. He has struck out 62 batters and walked 16 in 62 2/3 innings. He ranks second in the league and 11th in D2 in victories.

Webb, a senior, is batting .370 with 52 runs, 15 doubles, 10 homers, 72 RBI and 33 stolen bases. He is second in the MIAA and sixth in D2 in RBI (1.55 per game).

McClure, a junior, is 4-0 with four saves and a 3.91 ERA in 13 appearances. He is 2-0 with four saves in nine relief appearances and 2-0 in four starts.

Emporia State second baseman Logan Myers, who is a graduate of Frontenac High School, and Hornets pitcher Colby Deaver join Brewer as the unanimous first-team selections. Myers is third in the MIAA batting race at .414 with 21 doubles, four homers, 37 RBI and 65 runs.

Deaver also is the league pitcher of the year, and Hornets outfielder Evan Abbott is the freshman of the year.

Chris Klimas of Rogers State is the Steve Anson Coach of the Year recipient, an award named after the former Washburn coach.
