PITTSBURG, Kan. — After three hugely successful events, Crawford County Historical Museum Director Amanda Minton kicked off the last few weeks of summer with the final three Wacky Wednesdays at the museum.
Taking a break during the week of Independence Day, Minton started the homestretch off with Disney princesses. The little mermaid Ariel (portrayed by Jacqueline Johnson, of Erie) was joined by Belle (Rayne Defebaugh, of Erie) and sleeping beauty Aurora (Karli Bash, of Chanute) to sing and dance with museum visitors. They were joined by special guest Superman (Ty Leedy, of Chanute).
Although 143 kids were registered for the day, only about 50 showed up. This may have been because of the forecasted heat, according to Minton.
To beat that heat, however, Minton had the Jolly Trolley on hand to provide a cold treat and at the end of the day, kids were turned loose for a giant water balloon fight.
Minton has planned for two more Wacky Wednesday events for July 19 and July 26. Next Wednesday, the museum will host a petting zoo.
Families can register at crawfordcountymuseum.com/book-online or call (620) 231-1440. Registration ends at noon on the Tuesday prior.
All programs run from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
