Excerpted stories in Crawford County newspaper archives 100 Years Ago Dec. 6, 1923 “Buster” Burlingame, formerly of Pittsburg, and now in Rapid City, S. D., remembered an old friend, L. “Chink” Calhoun, recently with a collection of trophies obtained from Indians on the reservation near where he is working. The gift of several pounds of elk meat which Burlingame obtained through Rapid City hunters and which he sent express, insured, to Mr. Calhoun were received this morning. “The Mine With the Iron Door” by Harold Bell Wright, popular since its appearance, held first place in November with the reading public of Pittsburg, according to officials at the library.
