MINDENMINES, Mo. — It seems there is another important milestone to celebrate in 2026. Along with local festivals for the 250 years of independence, or the founding of Pittsburg 150 years ago, 2026 is also the 70th anniversary of the adoption of our national motto, “In God we trust.” On July 29, 1956, Congress passed a bill making “In God we trust” the official motto of the United States. Until that time, the unofficial motto, by de facto, had been “E pluribus unum,” Latin for “From many, One.”
