May 29, 2015, to Aug. 8, 2026.
This is the story about Truman.
If you shop at Home Depot, Tractor Supply, Harbor Freight, Ollie’s or Dollar General, there’s a good chance you’ve met two happy go lucky little Yorkie's named Harry and Truman. After your interaction, you likely walked away with a big smile on your face.
Truman was born in Northern California in the small town of Red Bluff.
In the late summer of 2015 Truman met his future family at the local pet store, Fred Fourby and Yorkie brothers Jack Nicklaus and Winston Augusta. It was love at first sight, but the timing was wrong. Fred also had an elderly Yorkie, Hannah Marie who he rescued from a puppy mill. Wanting her to live out her last days in peace, Truman was not adopted at that time.
In May of 2016 Fred received a call from a friend who said the local Animal Rescue had a young Yorkie who had been there more than six months, unusual for a young Yorkie. Fred dashed to the Pet Rescue to inquire about a Yorkie named Packer. Packer was the runt of the litter and was born with a congenital problem which caused him to have digestive issues. Yorkie or not, you mention puppy and poop problems and people run for the hills.
After further inquiry Fred discovered this was that same adorable Yorkie he had met at the pet store just under a year earlier. The pet store owner had sent him to the rescue because of the health issues. The rescue’s vet told Fred he could request a referral to the highly respected University of Davis Small Animal hospital for help with Packer’s problems. Within weeks they were at UC Davis with a team of 2 Veterinarians and a dozen veterinary under graduates. By that time Packer also had a new name, Truman. With the help of UC Davis and a strict dietary regiment, Truman lived a good live as all pets should. His thankfulness was reflected his love for people, pets and adventure.
Truman, Fred and brother Winston escaped California in June 2021 and moved to Pittsburg Kansas. The family. quickly settled into their new surroundings and loved making new friends on our daily adventures.
A year later, an illness took hold of Winston and sadly he crossed over the Rainbow Bridge in July 2022.
Being an only child for over a year, Oct. of 2023 Truman was blessed with a little brother from Tulsa, Harry. Harry adored Truman from the start. Truman was a great mentor helping Harry grow into the little gentleman he is today.
The duo of Harry and Truman have been ambassadors of smiles and joy to many, especially children, several which have experienced their first slobber kiss from Truman. Tail wagging and rear end wiggling, Truman always had time to visit.
Thank you to all those who have been a part of Harry & Truman’s life in Southeast Kansas.
