100 Years Ago Dec. 23, 1922 Shortly after midnight last night during a dance attended by about 150 men and women in a public hall at Liberty, Kas., southeast of Independence, five masked bandits entered wielding a shotgun and revolvers, lined the dancers along the walls, then proceeded to relieve them of all their money and watches. It is estimated they obtained almost $500 and more than 30 watches before fleeing south toward Oklahoma in two cars. The local post office broke its own record for first class mail when 27,000 first class letters were sent yesterday on their way out of Pittsburg.
