Excerpted stories in Crawford County newspaper archives 100 Years Ago Aug. 10, 1923 With memorial services scheduled for all parts of Pittsburg and extending into Crawford county, everything was in readiness today for the final tribute to the memory of the late President Warren G. Harding. All activity will stop at 3 o’clock this afternoon and for three minutes a silent prayer will be offered while the bells on the churches toll out the message of sorrow and grief. In order that the local police department have a complete record of the criminals of Crawford County, Desk Sergeant C. F. Wilcox was sent to Girard yesterday to obtain a fingerprint record of every prisoner in the county jail on a felony charge.
