High school baseball regional tournament assignments for Classes 3A and 2-1A were announced Saturday by the KSHSAA.
Girard and Frontenac are seeded 1-2 among the Class 3A teams in the eastern half of the state.
In 2-1A, Southeast is seeded No. 2, St. Mary’s Colgan No. 3 and Northeast No. 10.
Like the basketball postseason earlier this year, the 16-team bracket is split into two eight-team sub-regionals. The higher seed will serve as host for the first game – Wednesday for 3A, Thursday for 2-1A -- and the highest advancing seeds will host a three-game session on May 19 to determine state quarterfinalists.
In 3A, Girard (18-5) plays 16-seeded Galena (7-16) to open the postseason on Wednesday, and Frontenac (13-4) entertains 15-seeded Prairie View (7-12). Both games start at 5 p.m.
All three 2-1A local teams are in the bottom half of the bracket. Their games on Thursday match No. 15 St. Paul (4-18) at Southeast (18-4), No. 14 Oswego (4-15) at Colgan (13-7) and Northeast (7-15) at No. 7 Sedan (7-13).
State quarterfinalists will be reseeded for neutral-site games that will determine the state tournament semifinalists.
Pittsburg’s regional assignment for Class 5A will be announced this Saturday.
