Jacqueline “Jackie” (Montee) McGuire, 83, of McCune, passed away at 9:10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, at her home in McCune.
Jackie was born on Nov. 21, 1942, in Racine, Wisconsin, to Woodrow Wilson and Dorothy (Kirk) Montee. The family moved to McCune after Jackie finished kindergarten where she attended McCune school and graduated from McCune High School. She then attended Pittsburg State University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. She worked at Art’s café in McCune for 10 years.
She and James E. “Jim” McGuire were married on Aug. 15, 1964, in McCune. After 62 years of marriage, he survives of the home. Jackie’s first teaching job was at Service Valley School until their son Monty was born. She then became a stay-at-home mom to provide for his care. She later became the first librarian at the McCune Library where she served in that role for 10 years.
She returned to teaching, starting at the Project Alternative School at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center. She then worked in the Deaf Education Program at Labette County High School. She concluded her career in education as a deaf education teacher at Lincoln School in Parsons, retiring in 2005.
Jackie was a charter member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 50 years. She was also a member of the McCune Improvement Club, the Ladies of Lions Club, and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter of McCune.
Jackie enjoyed camping and traveling with her family. She and Jim traveled to Europe for their 50th wedding anniversary and enjoyed going on several cruises, and winters in Florida.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Monty McGuire of McCune; her grandchildren, Nick McGuire, and his wife, Crystal of McCune, Nate McGuire of Huntington, AR, and Treasea Reed, and her husband, Tony of McCune; her great-grandchildren; Olivia, Oleaha, Oakland, Milo, Melody, Baily, Dakota, and Emma; her great-great-grandchildren; Kinsley and Hunter; her sister, Kathy Lahey of Bonner Springs; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Larry Montee; and her sister, Connie Depue.
No services are scheduled. A private family burial will be held in the McCune Cemetery later.
