Jacqueline “Jackie” Rae Grubbs Casey, 92, passed away Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, at Wildwood Memory Care in Joplin, Missouri after a short illness.
She was born Nov. 20, 1933, in Arkansas City, Kansas, daughter of Claire Fletcher and Iva Josephine (Elliott) Grubbs.
Jackie graduated from Neodesha High School in Neodesha, Kansas in 1951. Traveling by bus from Pueblo, Colorado, to Neodesha, Kansas, she met a young sailor named Armound Richard “Dick” Casey. The sailor soon captured Jackie’s heart, and the following year they were married on Aug. 31, 1952, in Cañon City, Colorado. She followed him across the country during his Navy service, and when his enlistment ended in 1955, they moved to Pittsburg, Kansas and opened Broadway Electronics with Jackie’s father. Jackie and Dick shared 66 wonderful years, building both a family and a lifetime of memories.
Professionally, Jackie worked for Bell Telephone in several states before beginning a long career at Pittsburg State University, where she worked in the Business Office from 1964 until her retirement in 1996. She was awarded the PSU Employee of the Year in 1989.
Jackie was a member of the First United Methodist Church, 60+ year member of Order of the Eastern Star, advisor for the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, PTA, Girl Scout Advisor, PHS Band Booster, PEO, and 38 year member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Oceanus Hopkins Chapter.
Throughout her life, Jackie has been known for her warmth, creativity, and adventurous spirit. She enjoyed playing bridge with several groups, needlework, and she and Dick traveled to all 50 states and took eight cruises, including special trips shared with their children and grandchildren.
Survivors include: her daughter, Jana Jones and her husband Larry of Seneca, Missouri; son, Rick Casey and his wife Rebecca (Compton) of Bella Vista, Arkansas; grandchildren, Christopher Bradley of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Jeni (Casey) Crockett and her husband Bradley of Oronogo, Missouri; and Andrew Casey and his wife Cori (Koehn) of Bentonville, Arkansas; great-grandchildren Brenton and Gentry Crockett, and Leo and Blaise Casey; and niece, Linda Mills of Weir, Kansas
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Margorie Ferguson, and grandson, Ryan Bradley.
Memorial Graveside Cremation Services will be 10 a.m. Friday Sept. 18, 2026, at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS with Pastor Dan Moss officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for services. In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association.
