Lancer boys remain unbeaten in league play

CHEROKEE, Kan. — Southeast boys basketball surged out to a 20-13 lead after one quarter and managed to hold on for a 43-37 win in Three Rivers League play Thursday night against Uniontown.

The Lancers scored only single-digit points during each of the last three quarters after their hot start, as Uniontown took the air out of the ball and milked the 35-second shot clock almost every possession.

Southeast built a double-digit lead in the second quarter at 27-15 and even led by as much as 43-30 in the fourth after Solomon Scott knocked down his second trifecta of the night.

Uniontown scored the game’s last seven points.

On a night when seniors Blake Robinson and Garrett Burger produced a combined five points between them, Southeast junior Tyler Warner scored a game-high 21 points to help the Lancers stay unbeaten in league play. His old-fashioned three-point play with 4 minutes, 17 seconds remaining in the game extended the Lancers’ lead to 40-30.

Scott added six and Zayne Gabern five points.

Colter Powell led Uniontown with 17 points and freshman Brayden Russell added seven with a pair of 3-point baskets and one free throw.

The Lancers improved to 14-3 on the season and stay at the top of the Class 2A Northeast sub-state. They are idle until next Tuesday at Pleasanton.

Uniontown dropped to 11-5 overall.
