St. Mary's Colgan baseball ended a three-game losing streak, improved to 12-6 on the season and finished league play 9-3 after sweeping Columbus on Monday night, 5-1 and 8-1 at historic Jaycee Ballpark.
Colgan pitchers Gabe and Jayden Brown combined to allow two runs on three hits over with 21 strikeouts and four walks 14 innings pitched.
Gabe Brown earned the win in the opener and outdueled Pittsburg Post 64 teammate Ben Major. Major broke up Brown's bid for a no-hitter leading off the seventh with a single; Major eventually scored Columbus' only run. Brown finished with one run (earned) on one hit and 11 strikeouts and two walks over seven innings.
Gabe Brown also opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second.
Jayden Brown earned the sweep and finished with one run allowed (earned) on two hits and 10 strikeouts and two walks over his seven innings.
Brady Badart collected three hits (including two doubles) and Lane Stultz doubled for his only hit in the opener.
Jayden Brown, Badart, Brady Crossland, Carston Simmons, Gabe Brown, Brady Bettega and Stultz each had a hit for the Panthers during the nightcap. Bettega tripled for the Panthers' lone extra-base hit and Crossland and Simmons finished with two RBI apiece. Badart scored two runs.
Colgan welcomes Marmaton Valley (17-4) for a single varsity game Thursday at Pittsburg State.
