Dragon softball crushes Parsons 22-1

Pittsburg softball improved to 11-4 overall and 7-1 in the Southeast Kansas League with a dominant 22-1 run-rule win in three innings Thursday night against Parsons.

The Purple Dragons scored 13 runs in the first and nine in the second, while starting pitcher Breck Slaughter and reliever AnnaLynn Hudson surrendered no hits to the Vikings. Slaughter, though, did hit three Parsons batters.

Peyton Morey's three-run double, Micah Gomez's two-run double and Brette Pasteur's three-run home run highlighted Pittsburg's 13-run eruption.

Brilee Mantooth delivered a two-run homer in the second.

The Dragons finished with 11 extra-base hits among their 19 total hits against Parsons pitchers Morris and Cramer. Pittsburg hitters worked five walks and struck out not a single time.

Pasteur, Mantooth and Morey each drove in four runs. Brecken Campbell, Pasteur, Mantooth, Kenleigh Warford and Gomez each scored three runs and Laney Trisler and Emily Shriver each crossed home plate twice.

Slaughter allowed one run (earned) on no hits with six strikeouts and one walk over two innings. Hudson allowed no runs on no hits and struck out one and walked none.

Pittsburg bested Parsons by a combined 40-3 score this season, defeating the Vikings 18-2 in the season opener back on March 27.

The Dragons returned to action Friday on the road against Class 6A school Blue Valley West.
