Dragon baseball rolls Parsons 15-2

Pittsburg baseball scored 12 runs in the second inning on the way to a 15-2 win in five innings Thursday over Southeast Kansas League rival Parsons at historic Jaycee Ballpark.

The Purple Dragons emptied their bench and 10 different players reached the hits column and four different arms saw mound time. Landen Proffitt and Parker Pinamonti led the Dragons with two hits each.

Pittsburg improved to 5-10 on the season and 4-4 SEK League. The Dragons will bring a three-game winning streak into Tuesday's home game against Labette County.

"It's been something I've wanted to do since the beginning of the season," Pittsburg coach Troy Scribner said. "We've just never had an opportunity to roll a team like that to give us enough cushion to put some substitutes in. It was nice to have that opportunity and give some guys who normally don't play, a couple seniors who are great teammates and they just never get an opportunity. They came in and man, it was impressive.

"Those guys that filled in did great. We got multiple hits out of guys that have maybe two or less than two at-bats for the season. Coming in and hitting hard, it's phenomenal to see. We played great defense. Some of the younger guys turning a double play and making plays in right field. It was just a fun game for us to watch them perform like that. It was a lot of fun."

Jace Slavens and Brayden Wilson hit two-run singles and Landen Proffitt and Alex Hinspeter hit RBI singles during that 12-run second inning. Parsons errors directly produced three more runs, Jeremiah Lattimer doubled home a run and draw a bases-loaded walk for a second RBI in the second and Kash O'Brien also picked up an RBI with a hit by pitch.

Lattimer, Slavens, Busch and Wilson led the Dragons with two RBI.
