CHANUTE, Kan. — Pittsburg girls basketball improved to 5-5 on the season and 2-2 in Southeast Kansas League play with a 45-32 win Friday night against host Chanute. The Purple Dragons' defense held Chanute to a scoreless first quarter and the Blue Comets did not score for the first 8 minutes, 36 seconds and did not record its first made field goal for the first 9:49. The Dragons needed every bit of that 14-0 first-quarter advantage, since Chanute outscored Pittsburg 32-31 the last three quarters, including 16-8 in the fourth.
