Colgan softball blanks Northeast

In a matchup of conference champions, St. Mary’s Colgan blanked Northeast 10-0 in six innings Thursday afternoon at the PSU Softball Field.

Winning pitcher Bella Ascanio truck out 10 batters and walked one while allowing two hits – singles by Destiny Hagan in the fourth inning and Jaycee Maples in the fifth.

Addie Morris hit two doubles and drove in three runs for the Panthers (20-3), who won the CNC League title. Her two-run single capped a three-run third inning, and she drove in another run with a sacrifice fly.

Drew Dayton, Ascanio and Callie Lundy also had two hits for Colgan.

Pitcher Erin Doubledee gave up 10 hits, walked four batters and fanned three for Northeast (18-2), the Three Rivers League winner.

Ahead 5-0, the Panthers ended the game with five runs in the sixth inning.

Addie Bettega and Brooklyn Barrows walked, and after a double steal, both scored on Kara Osborn’s single to left field. Doubles by Dayton and Ascanio and a triple by Lundy each scored a run to end the game.

Morris doubled to left and came around to score on bunts by Kylee Kretchmar and Katie Duncan to give Colgan a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
