Kellan Lang’s grand slam in the first inning ignited Blue Valley Southwest past Frontenac 13-3 in five innings Thursday afternoon in Overland Park, Kan.
Lang’s homer to left field followed a walk and two hit batsmen as the Timberwolves (13-9) grabbed a 5-0 lead. They added three runs in the second inning, four in the fourth and one in the fifth.
The Raiders (13-4) got on the scoreboard on Gunner Horyna’s sacrifice fly in the second inning. A double by Brock Wiemers and single by Gage James each drove in a run in the fifth inning.
A single by Brady Sloan and triple by Jake Murphy accounted for Frontenac’s other two hits.
Raiders starting pitcher Crew Lemert walked two batters and struck out two in 1 2/3 innings. James fanned three and walked five in 2 1/3 innings of relief.
Max Nilges collected two hits and three RBI for the Timerwolves with a run-scoring single in the first and two-run triple in the fourth. Drew Pittman and Coen Lilly each contributed two hits and two runs batted in.
