Kenneth Leroy Geier, 68, of rural Girard, passed away on Friday, Aug. 7, 2026, at his home after a hard-fought battle with glioblastoma.
Kenny was born on Aug. 13, 1957, in Pittsburg, to Frederick and Ann (Shanholtzer) Geier. He attended Girard schools and graduated from Girard High School in 1975. He then attended trade school in Columbus, KS, where he earned his associate’s degree.
Kenny started his career as a carpenter. He then started ranching and farming after purchasing the family farm.
Kenny married Kristi Kennedy in Girard on Jan. 15, 1977. They spent 49 amazing years together building a beautiful life. Kenny and Kristi enjoyed traveling, attending concerts, and spending time with their families.
Together, Kenny and Kristi had two children, Scott and Danielle. Scott resides in Stilwell, KS, with his wife, Samantha (Kunshek), and three children, Gretta, Rosalynn, and Clayton. Danielle resides in Girard with her husband, Wes Driskill and their daughter, Breah.
Kenny was a true cattleman — he enjoyed taking care of his cattle, attending cattle sales, and working cattle, especially with his son, son-in-law, and granddaughter, Gretta.
In his spare time, Kenny could often be found in a tree stand bowhunting whitetail deer, fishing off his dock on the pond, or hiking the Rocky Mountains of Colorado elk hunting. He spent many Saturdays cheering on Oklahoma Sooner Football with his son in Norman, OK. Kenny was a proud OU Football season ticket holder.
Above all, Kenny was a family man. As a husband, he worked hard and provided for his family, had a loving home, and loved spending time with his wife. As a father, he led with strength, wisdom, and unconditional love — never missing a sporting event, school activity, or a milestone moment for Scott and Danielle. Kenny was an avid coach for his children and their teams. As a grandfather, he found his greatest joy creating memories and spoiling his grandkids. His family was his pride and purpose, and he showed up for them every single day.
Kenny’s absolute favorite thing to do was spend time with his grandchildren. They were his favorite people, and they all would say the same thing about “Grandpa” or “Papa.” While with his grandkids, Kenny loved spending time on the farm, playing tractors, reading books, cheering them on at sports and activities, and even playing Barbies and dressing up.
He was a member of the National Cattlemen’s Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and National Rifle Association.
In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, survivors include brothers Fred “Bud” Geier and his wife Jan; Jeff Geier and his wife Patty; sister Joyce Taylor and her husband Steve; brother-in-law Mark Kennedy, and sisters-in-law Susan Geier, Kathleen Kennedy, and Karen VanLeeuwen and her husband Jeff; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Steve Geier.
The family will receive friends for a Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13, at Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard. Friends and family can call after 2 p.m. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, at Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home. A private burial will be held at a later date.
The family suggests memorials to the Glioblastoma Research Organization, and these may be left at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
