John R. Harrison Sr.

John R. Harrison Sr., 86, of Arma, Kansas, formerly of Frontenac, died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026, at Arma Health and Rehabilitation Center in Arma, Kansas.

Mr. Harrison was born Dec. 13, 1937, at Kansas City, Missouri the son of Carl and Esther Arlene Traxler Harrison. John was a retired Police Officer for the City of Pittsburg. He later worked part-time for the Frontenac Police Department. He was raised in Erie and graduated from Erie High School in the Class of 1955. He married Sarley Martinez in Aug. of 1980. Mrs. Harrison preceded him in death May 24, 1921. He served in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Frontenac American Legion. Survivors include three sons, Nick (Melissa) Harrison of Chanute, John (Betty) Harrison Jr. of Pittsburg, and Shane (Karen) Harrison of Parsons, a daughter, Chelsea (Clint) Lawrence of Ft. Scott, eleven grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Sarley, a daughter, Edie Harrison, and two sisters, Carlene Yarnell and Barbara Crable.

Mr. Harrison has been cremated. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, 2026, at the Bedene Funeral Home in Arma, Kansas with Pastor Jim Sukraw officiating. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date at the National Cemetery at Ft. Scott, Kansas. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E.
