With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Donald P. Davied, 93. A lifelong resident of the community, "Donnie" passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 11, leaving behind a legacy of devotion to family, faith, and the land he lovingly called home.

Born near Greenbush, Kansas, on Aug. 30, 1932, Don was the second of 10 children born to John Leroy and Esther Elizabeth (McKinney) Davied. He attended Greenbush and St. Paul Schools and spent most of his life as a farmer and rancher in rural Girard.

Don began farming in his teens as a custom harvester with his brother Verdan, traveling from Texas to North Dakota. He also built a lifelong connection to the livestock industry at the Parsons Livestock Auction, where he worked for nearly 80 years, earning respect as a knowledgeable, dependable, and straightforward cattleman.

Don married Clarice Vitt on May 18, 1957, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Walnut, and together, they shared 69 years of marriage and raised their family.

He believed strongly in giving back, serving on the board of Heartland Rural Electric Cooperative for 42 years and as Vice-President of the St. Aloysius Historical Society. Faith was central to his life: he was a longtime member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Girard and the Knights of Columbus, and more recently of St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul.

Don leaves behind his wife, Clarice; children, Dan (Leah) Davied, Greg (Kelly) Davied, and Marlene (Scott) Grim; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Clara Whelan; brothers, Bernard Davied and Fr. Frank Davied, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Verdan, Gerald, Jim, Anna Mae Mies, Kathleen Ewan, and Doris Kennedy; infant son Mark; and grandson Josh Grim.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Aug. 21, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul, with his grandson, Fr. Matthew Davied, as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Aloysius Cemetery, Greenbush. Vigil services will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20 at St. Francis Catholic Church, where the family will receive friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Francis Catholic Church or the St. Aloysius Historical Society, and these may be left in care of or mailed to the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 403 Main St., St. Paul, KS 66771.
