Brian Jones fell asleep in death after an extended illness on Aug. 8, 2026, in McCune, Kansas. Brian was born to Edwin Kenneth Jones and Fern Eleanor Jones on April 14, 1967, in Parsons, Kansas. He was the last born of eleven children and lived on Belmont in Parsons.
Brian will always be remembered as a genuinely caring and kind person. After moving from Parsons, Brian's early years were mostly spent on the Jones farm West of Dennis, Kansas. Brian enjoyed fresh food from the family garden, especially the peas which he ate directly from the garden, the fried zucchini that his mom fried up in the kitchen, and the home churned butter. Living on the farm, Brian developed a love for the outdoors, especially fishing with his dad on the Neosho and Verdigris Rivers. Later, Brian would take up and love the admonition at Matthew 4:19 to "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men", enjoying his time in the field ministry after he dedicated his life to Jehovah God.
Working on the family vehicles with his dad, Brian developed a love of mechanics and chose auto mechanics as a profession. Brian met and married his loving wife Dawnita Shook on September 14, 2018. Together, they both cherished serving Jehovah and enjoying God's magnificent creative works. Brian is well known for assisting friends and family with their vehicles or any other need with which he could help. Brian was a very giving person! Brian was also known for his humor - always trying to bring a smile to family and friends.
Although ill for many months, Brian placed strong faith in a primary teaching of God's word about standing-up in a resurrection, as explained by our Ransomer Jesus Christ, at John 11:11-13: "He said these things, and after this he said to them: 'Lazarus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep.' Therefore the disciples said to him: 'Lord, if he has gone to rest, he will get well.' Jesus had spoken, however, about his death. But they imagined he was speaking about taking rest in sleep." In this passage, Jesus likened death to a state of sleep, and in harmony with Job 14:13-15, one is held in sheol or the 'common grave' of mankind, waiting to be awakened on the last day. We look forward to being reunited with Brian, along with a great crowd of others. God's inspired word at Acts 24:15 puts it this way "And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous."
Brian is survived by his loving wife Dawnita, and her brothers: Justin Shook (Donna), and Chad Shook, all of Pittsburg, Kansas and Jacob Shook (Tierra) of Miami, Oklahoma. His daughter Chakota Jones and grand-daughter Eleanor (named after his mother Fern) or Elly. His mother Fern Jones of Pueblo, Colorado. His sisters: Connie Johnson (Craig) of Pueblo, Colorado; Deborah Yanez (Victor) of Parsons, Kansas; Pamela Ballejos of Parsons, Kansas; Jody Belew of Frontenac, Kansas; and a brother Jeffrey Jones (Elizabeth) of Edmond, Oklahoma; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and others dear to his heart.
Brian was preceded in death by his father, Edwin K. Jones; his big brothers Kenneth Dale (Butch) Jones of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Daniel Lee (Dan) Jones of Jay, Oklahoma; infant brothers Jackie Dean and Donald; an infant sister Lee Ann; and nephews Daniel Jones Jr., Sean Johnson, and Chad Johnson.
Services will be at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 4005 Parkview Drive, Pittsburg, KS 66762, on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.
